Parents,
Registration for the older age groups is now closed. All registrations have been accepted, of your child was placed on the wait-list, they are in. U6 registration remains open with room for 11 kids.
Coaches,
We’re finalizing the rosters over the next day or two and they will be sent out along with practice schedules by Wednesday night, barring any issues. Please note there is the coaches meeting (for U8, U10 and U12 coaches) on Thursday, July 26th at 7:30 at the Township Building. The U6 program will have its own meeting at a later date.
We also have our Challenger camp coming up that entire week with the coaches clinic set for Saturday morning the 28th. Like last year, we’ll be taking care of field setup the same morning and if you’re available, it makes it a lot easier for us to have three or four volunteers. More details to follow on these items.
Equipment ordering is underway. To keep costs down, please plan to use your stuff from last year as much as possible. If you’re not returning to coach, please contact Dave Pender so that pinnies, cones and other misc items can be redistributed and save the club some money. New coaches will be provided with gear at their respective coaches meetings.
The July Board Meeting will take place tonight at 7:30 PM at the Swatara Township Administration Building.
Also, please note that the pre-season Coaches Meeting will take place in 2 weeks on July 26th. More information to follow.
With the beginning of July comes the activation of wait list registration. Basically, this means you can still register your child(ren) and we will do our best to place them on a team. In the unlikely event that we can’t place your child(ren) on a team, you will be issued a full refund for your registration costs. We have also entered into a late fee scenario where registration is an additional $10 per player. This is in place to encourage earlier registration and to offset increased costs with uniform ordering.
There are several individuals that selected “Mail-in Check” during the checkout process for which payment has not yet been received. Please note that we can not place your child on a team without advance payment. If your last name is listed below, please contact our Registrar as soon as possible at registrar@swatarayouthsoccer.com. Checks can be mailed to the address below:

Several of the above are due to the early-on bug in the registration system where age groups were not being auto-assigned correctly and would result in an incomplete registration. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Our respective Directors are in the process of forming teams and rosters will be sent to coaches in the next couple of weeks. If you would like to volunteer to coach (or assist) on a team and you have NOT already filled out the necessary application, please do so as soon as possible at the link below. Please note that simply indicating on your child’s registration that you would like to volunteer does not complete the necessary application for you.

U6 Program Information
Much of the above scheduling is for our older age groups. Teams for the U6 program will be formed toward the end of July/early August. This is done after the older groups because our U6 program does not typically ramp up with an aggressive practice schedule in August.
Just a quick reminder that we are rapidly approaching the 1st of July and our wait-list cutoff on that date. After July 1st, there is no guarantee that your child will be placed on a team. Open slots will be filled by wait-list players on a first come/first served basis.
The monthly board meeting for June takes place this Thursday, June 14th at 7:30PM.
Also, a correction to our newsletter for several of the dates for board meetings moving forward:
Thursday, July 12th, 7:30PM
Thursday, August 9th, 7:30PM
Thursday, September 13th, 7:30PM
Thursday, October 14th, 7:30PM
Thursday, November 8th, 7:30PM
Thursday, December 13th, 7:30PM
We have received a large number of requests already this year for a child to be placed on a specific team or with other specific players. In continuing the policy enacted last year, these requests are noted but not guaranteed in any way. The Board (specifically the respective directors) handles each request individually and they all start with “no”. From there, specific reasons are factored in to determine if the request will be granted.
Some examples:
- Siblings in the same age/gender group are always placed together to ensure transportation and game attendance are not an issue (unless a parent requests otherwise.
- “Sally and Susie are best friends and do everything together” is almost always denied. Recreational soccer is about making friends, meeting new people and learning the sport of soccer.
- “I work nights and my neighbor needs to take my child to practice” is almost always approved. If it can’t be, the Board will work with a parent to make alternate arrangements to ensure a child can participate.
Just a reminder that this Friday is the last day to get a free jersey with your summer camp registration. Details and link to registration can be found here.
The monthly board meeting for May will be held tomorrow (Thursday) night at 7:30PM. If you would like to register for the fall season in person and our scheduled walk-in session on May 19th conflicts with your schedule, you can do so at the meeting (or June’s).
UPDATE 4/21: Everything should be sorted out now. We will be going through the existing registrations to ensure they were placed in the correct age groups. Sorry for any inconvenience.
We are aware of a few bugs with the age groups and multi-child discount that we are working to resolve as soon as possible. Thank you for your patience.
Online registration is now available through July 1st, 2012: Online Registration
Walk-in registration (for cash/check) will be on May 19th, 2012 from 9AM to 12PM.
